DEREK J. THOMPSON, M.D.
Dr. Thompson received his undergraduate education from Georgia State and Georgia Southern Universities earning both a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics. He attended the Medical College of Georgia where is was invited into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. While at the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Thompson developed an interest in the treatment of genitourinary disease, especially prostate and bladder cancer, as well as the metabolic causes of kidney stones.
In 1985, following completion of four years at the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Thompson relocated to Gainesville, Florida to continue his training in General Surgery and then Urology at the University of Florida. He completed his general surgery training in 1987. Over the next three years he served as resident and Chief Resident in Urology at UF. It was there he confirmed his intense love of medicine, especially the diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases. Dr. Thompson remained at UF in 1991 completing a fellowship in Pediatric and Reconstructive Urology.
After completion of his formal medical training, Dr. Thompson founded North Florida Urological Associates, a private practice dedicated to the management of male and female urological disease. He organized a state of the art incontinence program at the Women's Center of North Florida Regional Hospital as well as promoting men's health through educational seminars in Prostate Cancer and Erectile Dysfunction.
In 2011 Dr. Thompson joined the Urology Health Team of Ocala and The Villages in an effort to continue to promote urological health to North Central Florida.
